An age is called Dark, not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it

The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work.

In my view you cannot claim to have seen something until you have photographed it.

What abilities should you look for in a wedding photographer?

Excellence in every photographic genre: the anticipation of a sports shooter, the artistry of a great portraitist, the style of a fashion photographer, the technical abilities of an architectural/landscape specialist, the empathy of a photojournalist, the attention to detail of a product photographer. In addition, it all needs to be executed under pressure, with no re-dos, in any light, any weather and with unfamiliar people. Photographers also need to keep their composure, no matter how hectic the day becomes, because everyone looks to them for guidance. There's an overwhelming need to be high energy, low maintenance and a good enough comedian to keep everyone enthused and smiling, while multitasking nonstop for extensive periods of time. When I think about it, it resembles a job description for motherhood! I'll have to bring this up with my wife...

For 30 years, I've had countless opportunities to share and photograph one of the most important rituals of human existence, the wedding day. A tradition that distinguishes us, from all other living forms!

Because a wedding marks the beginning of the lives of two people living as one, we feel compelled to record it with images that can best witness, not only the rituals and elegance of the event itself, but especially the abundance of emotions that fill this unique day. The know-how to anticipate decisive moments is an important aspect of wedding photography and must be evident throughout a photographer's portfolio.

Your wedding day is an historical event and as such, your wedding album becomes your family's first heirloom. A longtime friend of mine wrote to me about this important issue, you can read his touching letter in the testimonial section (français).  If french is unfamiliar to you, the image below also captures the essence of his point.

This lady bravely fought her terminal illness with the primary goal of surviving long enough to attend her niece's wedding. I'm honored by the opportunity to have immortalized her tears of joy, when her sister (bride's mom), moved from her front row seat during the ceremony, in order to stand next to her and share this special moment! Sadly but inevitably, this courageous lady passed away only 2 weeks later.
